Herons tuck one leg under their plumage to keep warm durring winter. They use countercurrent heat exchange to tolerate their submerged leg.

Birds raise and lower thier crests depending on mood. Raised often indicates excitment, while lowered coincides with calm. 

Chickadees store seeds for winter in thousands of different food caches, remembering and gathering from them in cold months. 

Sparrows clean themselves by taking dust baths, even defending their particular dry patch from other birds.
